Chalkboard Refrigerator makeover
Hi everyone! Today we are super excited and happy to show you one of our favorite projects.
An old refrigerator that became a piece of art.
This is how it looked before. The refrigerator is placed in the living/dinning room because our kitchen is very small. So we thought lets bring something to it since it's there in the open space.
The first thing we did was to unplug the fridge, remove the door handles and put painter’s tape around the inside surface of the fridge and rubber sides. Then lightly sand the surface of the refrigerator since this will help the paint adhere to the surface and last don't forget to clean it well.
You don't have to use prime or magnetic prime to secure the chalk paint or to reserve the magnetic quality. Just use a good chalkboard paint that you can easily apply, that doesn't chip off and keeps your fridge surface magnetic.
Apply three coats of paint with a small roller brush but wait until the coat is pretty much dry to put on another coat. You can apply as many coats as you feel like, but we recomment at least three. And don't worry- in the beginning the paint may look different than you expect- but after the second coat it will be fine.
For the handles - since they are plastic - don't use the chalkboard paint but a spray for plastic surfaces instead.
Here are some of our first attempts to decorate it...the cool thing is that you can change it when you get bored of it.
Before it was just a refrigerator in the living room....now it's an awesome refrigerator in the living room!!
Now we want to paint all our refrigerators with chalkboard paint...can you blame us?
